Urban Legend?
Clarence Hawkins, owner of Hawkins’ Dark Ride Company based in London, stumbled upon the undiscovered tomb of a pharaoh queen while on an expedition in Egypt in the early 1990s. The tomb and its treasures are legendary, but the exact location was a mystery to the modern world.
Quietly, Mr. Hawkins stole artifacts from the tomb, which he later used as props in twenty dark rides entitled “The Tomb”. Unexplained happenings have plagued the line of rides since their introduction into the UK’s carnival circuit in 1994. Some say the ride has mysterious powers. A few isolated sightings, believed to be the ancient Egyptian pharaoh queen, have been reported. However, due to untimely deaths, the stories have not been corroborated. It is speculated that the pharaoh queen’s curse will remain until the artifacts are returned.
Public concerns led to a court order to shut down the twenty Egyptian-based carnival rides. All but one ride was accounted for and closed. Mr. Hawkins stated that the remaining ride was sold at auction prior to the injunction and its whereabouts are unknown. Hawkin’s Dark Ride Company refused further comment before going out of business in 1995. Shipping dockets later surfaced, showing that the ride was shipped overseas to the United States. Since then, Mr. Hawkins has been unreachable for comment. The last remaining ride may still be secretly in operation somewhere in North America.
